The last few months have been really hectic for me, and I know I've been neglecting this blog terribly, but I have been writing and I do have some news.

I sold my most erotic novella yet, GABRIEL'S MISTRESS to Cobblestone's WICKED line, and it should be available in Feb. 2009. They also bought another western historical, called CHEYENNE MOON. Don't have a release date for that one yet, but I'll keep you posted.

I was asked to contribute to an anthology of short holiday stories, titled THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS. As a holiday gift, I will be giving away a free copy to anyone who wants one. To get your copy, simply send me an email at diana@dianabold.com.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season!

Diana Bold

THE VAMPIRE ORACLE - BIRTH

Hello everyone!

It's been a long time since my last post, but I haven't had much to report. For the last few months, I've been writing like a maniac, because by the end of December I had sold everything I'd ever written. :) In the last few weeks, I've finished both an erotic historical novella and a new western and sent them off to Cobblestone, so hopefully I'll have some good news soon. I've also finished the first book of a big fantasy/historical series and I've been shopping that around to the big New York publishers, so I'm hoping something will come of that, as well.

On Friday, June 6th, my contemporary vampire novella, THE VAMPIRE ORACLE - BIRTH was released from Cobblestone Press. This was quite a departure for me, because I've never written a contemporary before, but it was actually a lot of fun and hope you like it!

To read an excerpt or to order a copy, go to
http://www.cobblest one-press. com/catalog/ books/birth. htm

If you'd like to win a free copy, send an email with your name to diana@dianabold. com. I'll pick three names from all entries received tomorrow 06/10/08 at midnight. Good luck! I am freaking out a bit! In fact, during the last few weeks I've been having dreams where I sit there at that table all day and NO ONE shows up! Since I know at least a few people are coming, I guess that's ridiculous. LOL But still, I think this is the final real WRITER thing I haven't really experienced, and I'm a little afraid someone will point and yell IMPOSTER!!! Well, wish me luck, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Sexy Man of The Week!

I took the whole month of February off and concentrated on my new book, a sequel to HALCYON RISING that is tentatively called HALCYON FALLING. Wahoo!! Here's a short blurb...

When Lady Jessalyn Hunter finds herself ruined, both socially and financially, she is forced to accept the help of her older brother’s best friend — the man she’s loved since childhood. Ethan Tremaine has spent his entire life running from the tragedy of his past, but he can’t refuse his best friend’s dying request. He reluctantly agrees to marry Jessalyn, though he’s terrified by the thought of someone depending on him. What begins as a marriage of convenience quickly becomes much more. Can they find the courage to love, or will they let the ghosts of their past destroy them?

You can read the first chapter on my website at www.dianabold.com, or you can read a steamy excerpt from the middle of the book at http://www.cobblestone-press.com/catalog/books/blackorchid.htm

Happy Holidays!

Diana

Release Dates!

I absolutely, positively LOVE this cover! My thanks go out to my brilliant cover artist Tuesday Dube! This book was a long time coming, in fact it took me over three years to write it. Those three years were the ones where I was really doubting myself, wondering if I had any talent or if I was just kidding myself. I thought it was by far the best thing I'd ever written, but was afraid to finish it, afraid to go through the rejection process all over again, because I thought that if THIS book wasn't good enough, then nothing I ever wrote was going to be. Anyway, it will be available on Nov.30 2007!!!! Hope you enjoy it!

I also have a release date for my Christmas book, SNOW ANGEL. It will be available on Dec. 18, 2007.

And last but not least, THE WAGER will be available in print on Dec. 7, 2007.

Sexy Man of The Week

JUDE LAW!!

I am a HUGE Jude Law fan, but my absolute favorite of his movies is Cold Mountain. I could watch it every day. LOL

The Holiday is also fantastic, so if you haven't checked either of those out, you should!

I just got back from a weekend in Keystone with my writing group and got a ton of writing and brainstorming done, along with some much needed rest and relaxation. There's something really renewing about spending several days with good friends who absolutely GET you! It's nice to be able to ask someone what is the best way to kill someone and have them know you're not crazy!!

Meanwhile, I'm still hard at work on my Contemporary Vampire Novella for Cobblestone. This has been quite a departure for me, both because of the contemporary setting and the steamier-than-I-usually-write sex scenes, but it's been alot easier than I expected. In fact, I'm way ahead of schedule!

I turned in all the edits for my newest book THE BLACK ORCHID, so I should be getting a release date soon. I expect some time either in November or January. Still waiting on the cover art, also, but I'll be sure to post it when I get it. I'm expecting something amazing, because my artist is phenomenal. Her name is Tuesday Dube and I believe this is the first cover she's done for Cobblestone, but I checked out her website and was thrilled by her talent. You can read a free excerpt at www.dianabold.com

Well, I've been a little lax in my blog posting lately, but I will try to do better. Rest assured that it is because I am working so hard on my writing. :) Have a great week,

Diana

Wahoo! New Sales!!

I've been a little behind on my blogging lately, but that is because I have been BUSY!! LOL But I'm happy to say all my hard work has paid off. Within the last week I have signed two new contracts with Cobblestone Press. The first is for a novella in CP's VAMPIRE ORACLE series. I will be doing BIRTH. This will be the book that launches CP's print line, so I am very excited about that and so happy they chose me! This is also the first book I've sold on proposal (which means I haven't actually written it yet) which is both scary and thrilling! The second project is my Victorian Historical Romance THE BLACK ORCHID. This one is very near and dear to my heart, as I think it's by far the best thing I've ever written. There is some controversial subject matter in it though, so I'm really grateful to CP for taking a chance on it. :) I hope to have my website updated with new excerpts and covers soon!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dianabold.blogspot.com/2007/08/wahoo-new-sales.html' title='Wahoo! LOL In the past, I used my vacations to write, but this time, I was feeling the need to just relax. :) Anyway, my family went to California and I spent several days on the beach, listening to the ocean and reading! In the last year or so, I've been so busy, I haven't had time to read as much as I used to, and even when I do pick up a book, I've had a hard time finding things I like. But I had read a really good review on All About Romance about Elizabeth Hoyt's book THE RAVEN PRINCE and I had a gift certificate to Barnes & Noble that my wise child got me for my birthday, so I picked up a copy and stuck it in my suitcase. All I can say is that I WAS BLOWN AWAY! Loved this book! Loved it! Loved it! LOL When I finished it, I ran out and bought the sequel THE LEOPARD PRINCE and liked it even more! So do yourself a favor and read this book! Here are the rules:
A. Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves.
B. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

Well, I don't know if I can think of eight interesting things about me, but here goes....

1) I lived in Las Vegas, NV when the rocket fuel plant in Henderson blew up in 1989. All my windows and doors blew out and when I looked outside, I saw a mushroom cloud. I thought for sure we'd been nuked.

2) I had a horrible lisp when I was a child. Plus, I was born in Louisiana, and had a terrible southern accent, so when I moved to Colorado at five, my speech was interesting, to say the least. People used to give me quarters to talk. LOL I was shy and hated it and didn't really talk much for years! Which is probably why I started to write! (I have actually done an informal poll and discovered that quite a few writers had speech problems as children)

3) One of my best friends in high school was a movie star. :) My friend Kelly Reno starred in the Black Stallion movies as a child.

4) I have never broken a bone or had a cavity. (I've probably jinxed myself now)

5) I've been married 21 years and I still like my husband. LOL A miracle in this day in age, especially since we got married when I was 17 and he was 18.

6) I have a very black sense of humor. Death, chaos and mayhem are funny to me. I work as a police dispatcher and most people would probably be VERY highly offended by the things the cops and I find amusing. But I've been told it's a healthy coping mechanism. LOL

7) I have eclectic musical tastes. :) Right now my favorite band is Blue October.

8) It took me twelve years of seriously pursuing a writing career before I saw any results, and the best thing anybody ever said to me was when one of my kids said that I'd shown them to never give up because if you try hard enough you can make your dreams come true!

OK, I tag Shelli Stevens, Crystal Jordan, Heather Fowler, Samantha Lucas, Yolanda Sfetsos, Jennah Sharpe, Leanne Karella and Sable Grey

8)

Is it just me....

Is it just me, or is this guy totally HOT??? The answer seemed clear to me at first, because I have experienced that kind of passion with my sexy husband of 21 years. But then I started thinking and began to wonder if it was indeed possible to experience that kind of passion with someone you've just met. When my husband and I first met, there were definitely sparks and kissing him made my toes curl, but the deep, wonderful passion didn't really happen until we'd been together for years and I'd learned to trust him enough to truly let myself go. There's danger and excitement when you're having sex with someone for the first time, but I don't think many of us really experience mindblowing orgasmic sex at first, because you're too busy worrying how your ass looks. LOL Am I wrong about this?

New Cover!

Just got my preliminary sketch for my Christmas release from Cobblestone Press, SNOW ANGEL Isn't it BEAUTIFUL!!! Sigh. This was the first time in ages I managed to just relax and enjoy myself for five entire days without letting the stress of real life intrude upon my fun. :) I actually swam in the ocean and laid out on the beach without worrying what I looked like in a bathing suit. (Thanks in part to my son, Bryan, who threw me fully clothed into the water, because I originally WAS worried about that) I went five whole days without obsessively checking my email. I didn't even THINK about all the edits I have to finish, or the new book that was going so well and has now hit a brick wall. I ignored all the family and financial stresses that have been dragging me down lately and just lived in the moment. It was fantastic, and got me thinking about all I miss out on because I am constantly worrying about everything that is happening, everything that MIGHT happen, everything I've forgotten to do, or just simply don't have time for. Much as I love my kids, my husband, my new writing career, my full time job as a police dispatcher and part time one as an editor, I'm so far over my head I'm never going to dig myself out. There are always ten things I have to juggle or triage and sometimes I wonder if it's worth it. But what do I sacrifice? Where do I make those cuts so that I occasionally get the chance to have some fun and lay on the beach? Sometimes I really want to quit my job and just concentrate on the writing, but I did that once and found that I don't have enough self-discipline. LOL I seem to be the most creative when I'm under pressure, and I find that the constant drama and interaction with the public helps fuel my muse. So I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing until my head explodes!

Road Trip :)

I love road trips! When I was a child, it seemed we went somewhere almost every weekend. My mom and sister would sleep most of the way, but I was always bright eyed and bushy tailed, watching the world go by, keeping my dad company. Since I married and had children of my own, it seems I rarely get a chance to just take off the country and see what I can see. But in about fifteen minutes, I'm getting into my oldest son's cool little sports car and driving it halfway across the country to California, where he's in tech school for the Air Force. He has been missing his car like crazy, and I jumped at the chance to take it to him. I think there are few things better than cruising to places you've never been before with the windows down and the radio blasting. My husband would definitely disagree. LOL He likes to fly, and if he must drive he needs to have every second of the trip planned out. It makes him crazy when I want to detour off the highway and check out a point of interest or take some back road. Of course, since I just worked a twelve hour graveyard shift, I'm going to be EXHAUSTED by the time I get there, but I'm looking forward to it anyway. :) See you when I get back.

Sexy Man of the Week

Ok, I haven't posted a sexy man in awhile, but I think this one more than makes up for it! During the last week or two I've reconnected with a few I'd drifted away from and am so glad to have them back in my life. :) In the decade I've been in this crazy business, I've made friends with people from all over the country, both at conferences and online. (My husband calls my internet friends my "imaginery friends" LOL) It's wonderful to have that instant connection with a stranger, and know that they actually GET you. They understand why you'd rather write than sleep. They don't find the fact that you have people who live in your head odd. They cry with you over your (many) disappointments and help you celebrate your (few) triumphs. So thank you Renee, Tina and Sarah! THE WAGER is my favorite of all the books I've written and is the first book of my Victorian Trilogy that includes THE AMERICAN HEIRESS and THE BLACK ORCHID. Watch my website for cover art and an excerpt. Here is a short blurb...

Captain Dylan Blake has spent the last decade fighting for his country. Desperate for a little peace, he sells his commission and returns to England, hoping to manage one of his father’s country estates. But Dylan’s father, the Earl of Sherbourne, has never had anything but contempt for his younger son and refuses him this simple dream.

As a result, Dylan finds himself angry and adrift in London society, searching for something to fill his empty days. When an old nemesis, Jonathan Taylor, challenges Dylan to a wager, Dylan is willing to play along. The terms of the bet are simple. Dylan must get Lady Natalia Sinclair, the Duke of Clayton’s daughter, to dance with him twice in one evening.

Lady Natalia Sinclair has an enormous dowry and men have thronged to her side ever since her debut. Afraid that her dowry is the only thing that draws them, she’s learned how to protect herself. But Captain Dylan Blake seems different. For years she's followed his heroic military career and he's become the focus of her midnight yearnings. Unfortunately, she soon realizes his smile is false, his interest superficial.

Dylan sees Natalia’s rejection as a challenge and is more determined than ever to win the wager. The stakes increase when he discovers his father has ordered his older brother, Michael, to win Natalia’s hand. Passed over for Michael far too many times, Dylan needs to prove he can be first in someone’s heart.

As the lines between the wager and attraction blur, can Dylan and Natalia find the courage to take the biggest gamble of all - love?

Release Dates for THE AMERICAN HEIRESS!

I finally have the release dates for THE AMERICAN HEIRESS. Just yesterday, I had breakfast with this person, and looking back on the innocense of that moment, in contrast to what was to come, got me thinking about those moments of demarcation in our lives. Those seconds you can't take back, that change your life forever. The lines that divides your life into BEFORE and AFTER. Sometimes they are not of our own making - like the moment you hear that a loved one has died - and sometimes they herald a good turning point, such as the moment you find out that you are going to have a child or finally sell your first book. In any event, it made me a little depressed, remembering those old lines and wondering when another one will be crossed in my own life. So, until next time, make good choices. :)

Sexy Man of the Week!

<left>Cool Graphics and More</left>

OK, the cops I work with have a joke, "What's the hardest part about being a fireman?" I read everything I can get my hands on, no matter what genre. I read cereal boxes and signs on the side of the road, magazines and junk mail. I can't even imagine how many books I've read in my life, but out of all of them, I have a definite favorite. My favorite book of all time is Laura Kinsale's SEIZE THE FIRE. I've probably read it 20 times and practically know it by heart. Why this book, of all the books I've ever read? I'm really not sure. For me, it just hits all the right notes. The perfect bad boy hero, who really does have a heart of gold, paired with a naive heroine who has a lot of growing up to do and gets her dreams shattered before she realizes what love truly is. Ahh, perfect. LOL Does anyone else have a book like this, one you just can't get enough of?

Letting go is hard to do...

My oldest son just graduated from Air Force boot camp and I just got back from San Antonio, where we got to spend some time with him and go to the ceremony. For some, it's redemption; for others, it's hope or love conquers all. But it took me a long time to figure out what mine was. After writing six novels, I still didn't know. When I complained about this to a brilliant author friend of mine who is familiar with my work, she didn't hesitate. "It's betrayal," she told me. "All your books deal with betrayal."

She was right. I tend to write about characters overcoming betrayal and learning to trust someone who has become untrustworthy. Sometimes it's my hero who breaks the heroine's heart, and sometimes it's the other way around, but nearly all my books deal with this issue.

Of course, once I figured this out, it led to a lot of self-examination. Why is this subject the one that captures my creative juices? Why do I spend so much energy playing with themes of betrayal and forgiveness?

I decided it was because I have been both the betrayer and the betrayed in my personal life and have discovered that all relationships have times of adversity. But I believe adversity can burn through all the shallow reasons most people get together and reveal the truth about what lies beneath.

In today's society, it's far too easy to walk away from love when the going gets tough. When someone hurts us, it's easier to start again with someone new than to try and rebuild something that's been damaged. But odds are that sometime during that new relationship, you'll be hurt again. Too many people go from one relationship to the next, bailing out whenever things get dicey and never find the depth of love that only comes when you've walked through some fire together.

Up until about fifty years ago, it was much harder to walk away. Divorce was almost unheard of. I'm sure that made for a lot of very unhappy people. Men were controlling and women had no rights. But I also wonder how many people were able to forge long and lasting love affairs because they were forced to deal with their problems.

I've tried to write contemporaries, but I can't seem to do it. Let's face it, when your sister or best friend comes to you and tells you some guy cheated on her or lied to her, what is your first reaction? Leave the son of a bitch! LOL Women today have so many choices and resources that it often doesn't make sense to stay.

But put that same girl in a medieval castle or the old west, and what other choice does she have? She can either forgive the guy and try to rebuild the relationship, or hate him for the rest of her life but still have to deal with him every day.

I have to clarify that the characters in my books are good people put in bad situations. They do everything they can not to hurt the ones they love. But sometimes people make bad decisions and deserve a second chance. I try to give it to them, because someone once gave me a second chance. The same someone I've been happily married to for twenty years. In fact, it almost wrote itself and I finished it so quickly it was done before I had a chance to read all the Atlantis reference material I'd gathered. But when I stumbled across something which tied the Atlantis myth to the elves of Britain, my mind went into overdrive. But since I'd already come so far with AKIH, I decided to write another, bigger, historical fantasy with this new premise. I wanted to start the book with a fairytale feel, yet encorporate the entire premise, so it took me almost a month to write these two pages. LOL I'd love some input!!

We were here long before you.

For thousands of years our civilization flourished. Our great island city grew rich on trade and shipping. We ruled the world, and thought our reign would never end.

But nothing lasts forever.

The first time fire fell from the sky, the ground shook, and the ocean rose up in a terrible wave, killing thousands, but our city survived. When it was over, we rebuilt, and became stronger than ever.

For another fifty years, we continued as though nothing had happened, but the great fire snake continued to circle above, biding its time and waiting. A handful of our greatest minds - scientists, architects and philosophers – read the portents and realized that the end was near. We began to plot and plan, determined that our culture and knowledge would not die.

Over the next decade, we pillaged the great libraries of the world and recruited the best and brightest to our cause. Darkness and destruction were coming, and it would take all of our combined skills to defeat it.

We left our island home for the frigid northern climes, settling in the great, underground caverns of Britain. Deep in the bowels of the earth, we learned to harness the power of our subterranean water supply and channeled it to light our settlement. We found ways to grow crops in this false light and then waited for the inevitable.

This time was much worse than before. The tail of the comet dissolved in the earth's atmosphere, bits and pieces exploding across land and sea alike, causing untold death and destruction. As feared, our beautiful city sank beneath the sea. The skies turned black and the very air became a poisonous fume. The water was unsafe to drink, and crops and livestock died.

We were safe in our cavern, but had never imagined how long the blight would last. Generations lived and died below the surface, while the earth tried to recover from the mighty blow she'd been dealt. For nearly a hundred years, we taught our children history and philosophy and made new scientific breakthroughs, safe, if not content, in our underground home.

By the time the sky cleared and the ground became green and fertile, we had advanced light years. But when we finally returned to the surface we found that the rest of humanity had not been so lucky. Millions had died, and those who hadn't had been too busy with the business of survival to worry about preserving their knowledge or culture. The great civilizations of Egypt and Samaria, Greece and others had fallen, leaving behind men who were mere steps above the apes, so full of hysteria and superstition that they looked upon our lordly blond scholars with terror and suspicion.

At less than five hundred in number, we were forced to return to the caverns, venturing out less and less as we became hunted and persecuted. And so we became myth and then faded into legend.

We were called fey, and elvish and spoken of in whispers until we knew we were not even safe beneath the ground. Fearing for our lives, we were forced to go even deeper, beneath the sparkling waves of the north Atlantic, where we built a crystal city, completely self-contained and indestructible. We left the green shores of Britain with no little regret. For two thousand years we have waited for those on the surface to advance enough to accept us, so that we may walk in sunlight once again.

But some of us grow weary of the wait...

Morel Sales!!!

Since my last post I've made a few new sales! Well, I finally have a blog. :) I've actually been resisting doing this for quite some time, because I can't really think of anything anyone might actually want to read, but I'm going to give it a try! This has been such an exciting year for me! I've sold three books to Cobblestone Press, got some great reviews, met some wonderful people and am now nominated for the CAPA award for my first book THE MAIL ORDER BRIDE! Wahoo! I hope 2007 brings more good news!
